The Sailor

This December issue of The Canadian Sailor features key bargaining wins, contract updates, and progress across fleets and regions. Members will also find updates on recruitment efforts, workplace safety, and new digital tools designed to improve access to union services. Union leadership reflects on a strong year and looks ahead to continued advocacy and growth in 2026.

The September 2025 issue of The Canadian Sailor highlights SIU Canada’s ongoing fight to defend the right to strike, the relocation of Union Halls in Montreal and Niagara, and the upcoming launch of SIU2020, the Union’s new hiring system. It also provides updates on key contract negotiations, stresses the importance of strong grievance processes and ship delegates, and shares progress on initiatives to ensure safer, more inclusive workplaces for all seafarers.

The June 2025 issue of The Canadian Sailor updates members on various ongoing and upcoming contract negotiations, introduces members to the new Secretary Treasurer of the Union and highlights the hard work of SIU Member and ITF Inspector, Kyle Campbell.

The March 2025 issue of The Canadian Sailor highlights the ongoing tariff threats from the United States and emphasizes the need for national unity in standing against these unjustified measures. This edition also provides updates on negotiations with several units and celebrates International Women’s Day 2025.

The final issue of The Canadian Sailor for 2024 reflects on the past year for SIU Canada, highlighting historic strides made for women in our union and the significant changes and advancements undertaken to improve the lives of all members. This issue also addresses the growing attacks on the right to strike for unionized workers across the country and our ongoing fight to defend this fundamental right.

The September 2024 issue of The Canadian Sailor discusses the recent changes made to the National Shipping Rules, allowing for the advancement and implementation of our virtual hiring hall system, SIU2020. This issue also provides a variety of updates on many ongoing negotiations with different units within the SIU Canada.
