SIU Canada has submitted a brief to the House of Commons Legislative Committee studying Bill C-39, reiterating our opposition to provisions that threaten Canadian maritime jobs, weaken cabotage protections and undermine the right to strike.
Our submission calls on the committee to remove the proposed changes to the Coasting Trade Act and the new Section 107 powers. Canada needs to strengthen its domestic fleet, support Canadian seafarers and respect workers’ rights.
